Seattle Wind Storm

December 17th, 2006 · No Comments · Uncategorized

We’re on day four without power to our home in Sammamish after the terrible windstorm that hit the sound on Thursday night.  As of this morning our home is still without electricity or phone service (mobile or landline).  Last night was a cold one with no heat in the house and temperatures outside dropping below freezing.  Lines at the gas stations where there is power are over a mile in length.  Puget Sound Engergy advised us that our neighborhood, Renaissance Ridge, will not come online for at least two more days.

Josie and I came into work today to warm up, make some phone calls and I got caught up on some work.  Quite a few families seem to have came into Microsoft today to warm up and recharge cell phones, etc.

A couple of tips that might make life easier for you in the event of a future power outage.

  • Make sure you have an old school phone around that gets power off of the phone lines
  • Fondu Pots are great for warming up soup, cooking meat in oil and warming water..
  • KOMO 1000 has great neighborhood to neighborhood coverage with people calling in and helping out each other.  Nice to see.

If anyone has a generator that they are not using and would like to lend out, drop me a line via email (my contact link on my blog) or call my mobile number 425.753.6138.

Postscript: Powers back.
