Microsoft 10 Version 1.0 is now online
19 Jul
After a late night and a team in two different time zones (I’m in Orlando, Florida attending an internal conference) we shipped a major update to 10.

We did learn a lot on our way to this release. One consistent piece of feedback you gave us was that 10 lacked a purpose and the major side effect was that our content often was all over the map.
As a team we really took that to heart and wrote what the 10 Manifesto. This manifesto is a set of principles we’ll use as a compass to help guide us forward.
The 10 Manifesto
- One band of passionate digital citizens reaching out to enthusiasts around the globe.
- Two-way communication that is based on mutual respect will lead to success.
- Three degrees make up the interview: The medium, the subject, and the conversation.
- Four corners of the world encompass millions of ideas and a shared global imagination.
- Five by five is how we communicate; with maximum strength and clarity.
- Six minutes of headlines and links isn’t enough. We want to create opinions, depth, and focus.
- Seven days a week we hunt for discussions on seven continents. Work and life can be synthesized
- Eight bits of media will grow into more than just bytes of data. They should inform and enthrall.
- Nine plus Ten is much more than nineteen. Together we can teach, listen, and learn together.
10 is all of these things, but most important it is what our users make it. Listen to everyone.
The technology behind the site is the stuff folks saw at MIX, ASP.NET 2.0, Atlas, SQL 2005. Heck we even did a lot of our UI work using Expression Web Designer. The site was written from the ground up starting last February and we’ve been iterating since then. Its a complete end to end blogging solution as well as forums that treats media as a first class citizen. I am in complete awe at how quickly this is coming together. Ultimately this will be the code-base that Channel 9 will move towards in September (we’ll obviously preserve the tone and flair that is unique to C9) but having one codebase for all the properties in what we call the Evangelism Network will be helpful to us. We’ll roll in a Wiki soon and have a few other surprises up our sleeve that we’ll disclose soon.
We have more work to do on this, the team is fixing the inevitable launch bugs, but I definitely feel like we’re on our way with Channels 9 and 10.
