Is Webkinz the next Facebook?

October 7th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

I’ve seen the question of, “What’s the next network to go big after Facebook?”

Webkinz of course.

Mark my words, Webkinz will be one of the top toys this holiday seasons for kids ages 6 – 13+.

A real conversation from last night at dinner between our daughters Josie (8 years old) and Brynn (21 years old).

Brynn of course is part of the Facebook generation (more here).  Josie is part of an equal phenomena known as Webkinz World.  Josie very well could ultimately be labelled as a member of the Webkinz Generation too.

Josie: Brynn!  You should get a username on WebKinz, it is so cool.

Brynn: No Thanks.

Josie: But, Brynn if you join I can add you as a friend.  You can also make rooms and send friends gifts.

Brynn: Umm, No Thanks.

Sound familiar?

We’re watching the rise of WebKinz across the country.  Hallmark stores are selling out of the product in record time and parentsare logging into their child’s WebKinz account to help their kids accumulate points.

Interesting.

I wonder what WebKinz will be like ten years from now?

What makes this pretty cool is that this online community makes money by selling a physical product.  The more stuffed animals you buy, the more areas of Webkinz land that are open to you.

Curious?  Read more over on the WebKinz FAQ.
