In Defense of a Company I love

Vic started blogging today, with a very powerful post entitled, In Defense of a Company I love. He nails why I’ve worked here for the last eight years and why I’ll be here for another eight.

Some of my favorite parts from this post:

Further, I believe in the magic of software. We humans are a fascinating bunch. We’re pretty innovative. Yet of all the inventions we’ve created through the millenniums, I argue software is special. Software is unlike any other tool we’ve devised. Software can mimic the human mind.

Already we are allowing software to make decisions for us, to act in our behalf. (Have you ever landed in really bad weather? I did, and landing was very hard. The pilot came on to apologize after we landed and said “Sorry about that, but we put the plane on instrument landing as visibility was zero”. Autopilot is about the magic of software.)

Also you can’t beat these lines he quotes from Charles Fitzgerald, I remember hearing Charles say these in a staff meeting awhile back thinking, man I gotta blog those.

From the “backroom to the living room”

From the “Shop floor to the top floor”

From the “Warehouse to your house”

From “web farm to the wrist of your arm”

We’ve got some something cooking.

Its awesome to have Vic starting to blog, he’s been an inspiration to me and I’ve been lucky to work near him about the last eight years. I hope he keeps it up and produces many more great posts like this.
