I'm thinking (I repeat thinking) about buying a new car and am looking for something fun. Recently while in California I noticed a new mustang that had some styling effects and alluminum wheels that made it really stand out.
Turns out the car was no ordinary Mustang, it was a Saleen Mustang. A company with a long heritage of crafting beautiful cars, what Saleen does to the Mustang GT is amazing.
- Custom forged 7-spoke 20" x 9 allow wheels
- Saleen's microchip improvements along with a free-flowing air filter bring 400 horses under the hood
- Suspension improvements - springs, shocks, and anti-roll bars and pivot bushings
- Free flowing exhaust improvments
- Interior guaging improvements and seat updates
That just some of the stuff they do to a stock Mustang, there's much more, click around here for a better look (you can even hear the roar of the engine).
Man, its been hard to get details on the Saleens from a customer perspective, as Jason Calcanis mentions spam is taking over the blog search sites making it impossible to find any information from the blogs on popular consumer products. (Hey MSN Search Team Opportunity Knocks. If you search for Saleen Mustang on all the major blog search engines instead of information from owners you are returned SPAM from folks trying to increase their Google page rank. I did find some decent information on Autoblog for an original mustang which was Ok.
Yesterday I drove out to Bickford Ford in Snohomish, WA which is one of Washington States largest Saleen Dealers and took one for a test drive. Oh my God! What an unbelievable car! There's a reason that every single 2005 Mustang that comes off the assembly line is spoken for.
Ford has a winner here! Saleen takes it over the top!
Getting behind the wheel it felt like I was in a muscle car. I was a little skeptical of the retro look of the car and wondered if it was all looks and no action. As soon as I got behind the wheel, powered it up, it brought back all sorts of memories of a friends '69 Mustang from high school. This is a muscle car.
I took the car out for about 30 minutes, scooting down the highway, working through the gears. The car handled really well and I still have a grin on my face from the experience. I'm trying rationalize right now the Saleen vs. a stock GT with Allow Rims and a microchip (purchased seperately from Saleen) not sure if all the extras Saleen brings to the table are worth it, but man what a car!
If anyone out there has bought a 2005 Mustang GT, let me know what you think. I'll link back and consolidate the views.
