Directory to Notepad (results)Disclaimer: I saw this on DIGG the other day, but can't find it via search this morning to attribute.

I am a Windows Notepad user, I use it throughout the day to keep running notes from meetings that I later consolidate into meeting notes and actions.  It works well.  I should probably use OneNote or something but I like the simplicity of a basic text editor like notepad.

So here's one cool little trick for notepad that allows you to to automatically keep a simple date/time stamp in notepad as you open/add to a log.

  1. Start Notepad.

  2. On the top line of the file type: .LOG (must be capitalized) ,  save the file with any name

  3. Re-open it

  4. A date/time stamp is added to the file below the word .LOG -- add some text below that.

  5. Save and reopen again a new date/time stamp is  listed below the text.

It will look like this:

.LOG
9:46 AM 7/9/2006
HELLO
9:46 AM 7/9/2006
HELLO Again

It is teresting that this is hidden in notepad, I wonder what else is in their?  Tim Sneath told me the other day that if I use Notepad so much that I should give Notepad2 a whirl.  Omar also has instructions on replacing Notepad with Notepad2.  I do need to give that a whirl.
