Reading Dave's post about staying in Banff tonight brings back great
childhood memories as I spent a good part of my early childhood in Kamloops, British Columbia moving to Saskatchewan in the fifth grade.
Each summer our family would make the trip back to Saskatchewan for vacation which was at least a two day trip. Banff was the perfect spot to pull over and get out of the car to take a break. We'd always get to stop off at the Sulphur mountain gondola and make the ride to the top.
A few years back I was able to repeat the tradition with my own family. When you get to the top you aren't actually at the true summit, but they've got a nice pathway that I believe is wheel chair accessible that allows you to take a walk to the summit.
It will be interesting what Dave thinks about the trip as takes the Roger's Pass and the curvey roads near Golden, British Columbia. As I child these roads freaked me out and I would hide on the floor in the back seat of my parents car:-). Later in life driving them as an adult with my own family they didn't seem to be that big of a deal. We'd also stop at the Roger's Pass Summit and at the CP Rail Spiral Tunnel information booth, an interesting part of Canadian railroad history. We'd also fill up water jugs from the waterfalls that cascade down the mountains along Roger's pass, the water was so cold, but so fresh. My Dad had a CB Radio in his car and we'd listen in on the trucker conversations as we'd make the trip. Fun
Dave, it has been a real treat watching and listening as you make your trek. I've lived in all the provinces that he's crossed. I was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, spent most of years in Estevan, Saskatchewan, went to college in Calgary, Alberta and had my first job out of college in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Thank you!
