An old time friend, Jordan Breckenridge is off to Berkley to get his MBA. Jordan and I spent our younger years programming Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 computers and hanging out on Bulletin Board Systems. Our parents took turns giving us rides to and from each others houses. Together we hung out, shared programs and talked about building applications.
One of the coolest programs Jordan wrote back in the day (high school) was a modern day equivalent of Orkut. Jordan handed out surveys out in home room across the high school. Students answered questions about their personality and interests. With the data on hand Jordan entered the data (hopefully the SRC helped, but I can't remember) in his computer. Weeks later on Valentines day each student received a list of what folks of the opposite sex they were most compatible. Now if only Jordan had updated the code, registered the domain name and saught VC funding maybe he'd be retired.
Great though on photos on Jordan's website, whenever I get home sick for Saskatchewan I go and look at this page. My favorite photos are:
Combine -- Reminds me of my grandfather who passed away when I was very young. I used to love riding on the combine with him.
Prairie Church -- My grandmother took care of a small church in the town of Benson (population 100 people) and I remember to this day going with her as she got the sacrement and bibles ready for mass and me playing in the choir loft or helping her carry things.
Car Dust -- People joke that Saskatchewan is the only place where you can watch your dog run away for two days. :-) There is something surreal about being in the middle of nowhere and watching a car come across the prairies. Chances are its someone you know. I love small towns.
